the artist's makes similar photographs.
Using the shadows found behind, beside and below works of art in various museums, Atkinson captures the casts shadows, ie: the light energy, or after-images, of those artworks.
(Editor's Note: On occasion I write up my own personal artworks. Even though I discuss the artist in the 3rd person, I am indeed both the artist and the author of the text.)

Jack Atkinson's Artist Statement
"My process is journalistic, drawing from life, in real time, what's in front of me, using ink and brush on paper. These preliminary works are scanned and become my digital jpeg files, the point of departure for the art I exhibit. Some jpeg images are enlarged, using mostly the change of scale, as the digital contribution to my process and are titled simply "BLOW-UPS." Other art pieces are manipulated and painted within the computer, before the final digital output, (digital paintings).
"On canvas, my 'digital paintings' are unique (1/1).
When the digital outputs are on paper, they are created in editions,
usually limited to seven (7) plus one artist's proof."

Digital Output Paintings
(ink jet prints on canvas)
"I noticed early-on how my ink and brush paintings, from life, seemed to capture the 'energy' of the subject in front of me - something difficult to define but definitely present in the work. Always starting with those black and white line paintings, the energy they captured became my focus and my subject."
