an editorial comment:

PRESIDENT TRUMP has made clear his intention to eliminate the funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

The NEA and NEH have supported artists, writers, museum professionals, and a wide array of scholars in creating new artworks and artistic scholarship. The NEA supports thousands of cultural and educational organizations and in a few cases gives grants to individual artists. The NEH, supports the teaching of the Humanities, those elements of society which make us Human. It creates access to educational scholarships and grants for artistic research, nationwide. In addition, the NEA and NEH give strong support to museums throughout the country. Combined, the relatively small Fed. govt. funding budget of $300 million, for both agencies, generates hundreds of millions of dollars in matching fundraising support for our cultural institutions, plus it helps to create countless new works of art and scholarship each year. The cultural sector of the US economy generates more the $135 billion in revenue and employs over three million people (in our small towns and our large cities alike). Nationwide, museums of all sizes educate and inspire millions of Americans, assisted through this funding! We urge all US citizens interested in the arts and culture to contact their representatives in Congress (http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/and let them know NATIONAL SUPPORT FOR ARTS AND CULTURE IS IMPORTANT for our free society. The arts have been proven to be the true record of any society and the word CULTURE sums it up. All countries are represented by their culture! Ask Congress to keep the funding for NEA and NEH at the current or a higher level, because our freedom to create ART and to learn from CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS are major elements of what makes America Great!
